I love my car and be convinced that I stand by what I have, but I want and need a vehicle to backup as public transport here will not be attending. I'm considering one of them, especially a Sportage or Optima.

I would warn against KIA. You get what you pay, it is cheap, it falls to pieces, their chatter, their articles on clever.
Then, the warranty does not cover many things you can weigh the fact. If you buy one, please read the newspapers warranty.
