Toyota reported a unpretentious but appreciated 7.5% rise in sales last month over the same month a year ago, driven by sales of its new Camry relatives sedan and the Prius hybrid.

While the Toyota and Scion divisions were up, Lexus sales were down -- 7.5%.

"This month's results show that the all-new Camry is a hit, attracting both new and dedicated customers with its class-leading performance and value," said Bob Carter, Toyota Partitioning group vice president, in a statement. "Our focus on delivering the with greatest satisfaction new products will continue as we enter the most aggressive launch of new vehicles in Toyota's representation."

Among the month's hits were Camry and Camry hybrid, with a 55.9% improve; Prius, up 8.7%; and Avalon, up 79.3%.

Toyota pickup and SUV sales fell 4.4%, but some models, such as Tacoma, up 24.6%, did well. Tacoma benefits from Ford having killed its Ranger pickup, one of the big sellers in the section.
